About Mountain House Current

We cover Mountain House, California — a town of roughly 29,000 people that only became a city in July 2024. Nobody else covers it as their main subject, so we do.

What we cover

Six sections: City Hall, Schools, Development, Public Safety, Business and Community. The test for a story is not whether something happened but whether it changes anything for someone who lives here — what they pay, where their children go to school, what gets built near them, what they can attend and influence.

Where our facts come from

We read primary sources: council agendas and minutes, the county sheriff's releases, Lammersville Unified board packets, county planning and permit records, and the city's own notices. Every article links the document it came from. If we learned about a story from another outlet, we say so and link them.

How we use AI

We use software to monitor public records and draft first versions of routine stories. Every fact in a draft has to be traceable to a verbatim quote from a source document — a claim that cannot be traced is removed automatically, before a person reads it. Numbers are checked against the source separately.

A person reviews and edits every article before it publishes. We do not publish machine-generated text unread, we do not generate images of real events, people or places, and any illustration that is generated says so on the image.

Corrections

We will get things wrong. When we do, we correct the article, add a dated note at the bottom saying what changed, and run the correction in the next newsletter. We do not quietly edit a story and pretend it always said the new thing.

Comment policy

Comments are moderated before they appear. We publish disagreement, criticism and argument. We do not publish personal attacks, accusations we cannot verify, or anything naming a private individual in connection with a crime. In a town this size those posts do real damage to real neighbours.
